We have all been told not to judge a book by it’s cover but in a digital world, people judge emails, articles, books and manyother offerings by their title. Our customers have too much stuff to read andtoo little time not to use titles to sort and to delete.
Without a great title, your video, email or article will most likely hit thetrash bin.
Here are some techniques for you to try and to see the effect on youraudience.
1. Use Specifics "Top 5 Reasons Why Your Diets Have Failed" or“"12 Secrets For Getting Prospects To Return Your Call". Using a specific number seems to tellpotential readers that you actually have what you promise. It differentiatesyou from vague promises of results. It gives you believability.
2. Use The Power Of Curiosity By Using A Question If you can make them curious enough, they will want the answer enough tostart reading or watching. So, a title like, “What Prospecting Secrets DoTop Earners Have That You Are Missing?" might raise a salesperson’sinterest enough to read. It is definitely more powerful that the same sentencewithout the question.
3. Start with How to If you have the right audience for your products, they want to know how todo something. By starting with “How to", you encourage them to takethe next step…to read on and find out how to solve their challenges.
4. Story titles "I was a failure at selling until I found softer way to sell .."
People like to read story, especially if they can relate to it. Many highlysuccessful ad campaigns are based around story headlines.
5. Emphasize benefits Don't sell the features but the benefits. People don't care how good yourproduct is. They only want to know if your product can help them solve theirproblem or improve their life.
Titles are important for any articles, emails or videos. You can boost theeffectiveness of your articles by using one or more of the tips above. Try it, you'll be amazed how fast it can turn your so-so titleinto a powerful one.
